My Dallas Trip

I went to Dallas for a Cellcore muscle testing conference and while my whole trip wasn’t centered around food, I made sure to make the most of every single meal.

Dallas may not have as many traditionally gluten free and dairy free places but there were many that make accommodations. However, I still brought my gluten enzymes just incase there was any cross contamination.

Our first stop was Bellagreen, they have locations all over Texas and clearly distinguish between gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian items on their menu. Plus they have a gluten free fryer which is a goldmine for me, since I am a french fry aficionado. I got the special- the paleo rainbow slaw salmon tacos and my boyfriend got the Korean ribeye tacos. We also got a side salad and a side of french fries. The salmon tacos were amazing but the “paleo tortilla” was more like an omelette, so not exactly what I expected or wanted. My boyfriend was so obsessed with the Korean ribeye tacos that he got them the next time we visited. Also I must say, their french fries were some of the best I’ve had in a long time! They were fried to perfection, and the potato to crispy outside ratio was ideal.

Then we went to Pressed Juicery, my favorite place for dairy free soft serve. They have locations all over the US but none near me so anytime I go on vacation I make sure to make a stop here. They also sell juices, wellness shots, and a mixture of other drinks. They make their “freeze” or dairy free soft serve with just 6 ingredients. so you always know there are no fillers or junk. I always get their vanilla freeze with coconut flakes and strawberries and my boyfriend got the chocolate freeze along with a chocolate mylk. They have the best treats there so be sure to keep a little room left in your stomach if you go there!

We got dinner later that day at Origin Kitchen and Bar, which ended up being my favorite meal in all of Dallas. We got their vegan cashew queso to start and WOW, I forgot to take a picture of it until halfway through that’s how good it was. It was served with avocado oil fried malanga chips so the meal was fully gluten, dairy, and inflammatory oil free. My boyfriend got a sugar free old fashion and said it was delicious. Their cocktail menu looked amazing so if you are in the mood for some cocktails along with your meal this is the place to go!

Origin also has a “Clean Menu” which is 100% gluten/grain free, dairy free, sugar free, wine free and unhealthy oil free. I was so grateful for this menu so I could tell what food was clean for me and what dishes needed to be adapted according to my dietary preferences. I ordered the grass fed hanger steak and my boyfriend ordered the Defined Dish enchiladas con carne without cheese and with the vegan queso on the side. Both of our meals were AMAZING, and the vegan queso substitute was by far the best idea. I highly recommend either of these meals to anyone going to Origin.

The next day I was at the conference all day but for dinner we got Bellagreen to go. This time we opted for more typical dinner foods. My boyfriend got the almond crusted snapper and I got the paleo ribeye. We were both extremely happy with our choices. We also got a side of sweet potato fries and they were just as crispy and amazing as the regular fries. While we only tried a few things at Bellagreen, I have to say it is the perfect fast casual place to pick up a meal in Texas. They also have a delicious looking dessert menu, most of their treats are gluten free but none were both gluten and dairy free so I wasn’t able to try anything.

The next day we went to HG Supply Co because their menu states that anything can be made gluten and dairy free. The ambiance was great and honestly would be the perfect place to get a few apps and some drinks. We started off with the vegan queso (can you tell we love queso?), which came with corn chips. The queso was good but it tasted more like a flavorful dip than a queso. Then we both made our own bowls for our meal, they were definitely delicious but I got the salmon which was small and left me wishing I had another piece. It was a cute place to visit and get drinks, but the meal left me wanting more.

The last day of our trip we went back to Origin but this time for breakfast. We both got the breakfast tacos made with siete tortillas and a side of fries. The breakfast tacos were good, they only give you two tacos but they make sure to load them to the brim so you definitely get your money’s worth. The fries were amazing as well, they were cooked in avocado oil and gluten free if you get them off of the clean menu. If you’re in Dallas and want an amazing meal that can also fit your dietary restrictions, Origin is the place to go.

We finished our trip going to Unrefined Bakery, a 100% gluten free bakery with multiple locations in the Dallas area. Most of their bakery is dairy free as well with the exception of a few items with cream cheese icing. I was super excited to go to this place since they also have a few paleo treats if you catch them before they sell out! I got the paleo strawberry cupcake and my boyfriend got a gluten free dairy free chocolate chip cookie, they even gave us a second cookie since it was our first time visiting their store! I have to say the cupcake was perfect, not too sweet but definitely curbed my desire for a treat. I opt for paleo baked goods when they are an option because my palette has gotten used to reduced sweetness- and this place hit the nail on the head. My boyfriend loved the chocolate chip cookie, however he said it tastes like a traditional chocolate chip cookie(which was a little sweet for him), but if that is what you are looking for you are golden. i would definitely recommend this place to anyone in Dallas looking for a sweet treat although they also make breads, rolls, and a plethora of other baked goods.

My favorite place in Dallas was actually not one of the multitude of restaurants we went to, it was the infrared sauna studio. Glow Sauna studio is right across the highway from Southern Methodist University and can accommodate all of your sauna needs. They have both cabins and pods, and offer 30 and 45 minute sauna sessions. I love infrared saunas as a way to detox my body and after getting glutened on this trip, I really wanted to help my body get the toxins out. They also have ipads in the cabin that you can watch Netflix of youtube on. The Sunlighten infrared saunas hit a steamy 158 degrees and also have chromotherapy lights which can offer your body a plethora of benefits. I visited Glow twice during my stay in Dallas so you know it is the real deal.

We had a few restaurants and cafes on our list that just never panned out. If we ever go back to Dallas we will be sure to hit up these places first thing so we can report back on what the food was like!

Places we didn’t make it to:

Gather Kitchen- It is temporarily closed but I was really looking forward to their menu! It is a full gluten free restaurant with plenty of vegan, dairy free, and paleo options. If you go to Dallas I would definitely look them up to see if they reopen!

Snooze- A great breakfast place with plenty of dairy free and gluten free options! They have locations all over so a good backup plan for breakfast!

Kozy Kitchen- A fully gluten free cafe, their menu looked great but they are only open for breakfast and lunch. So whenever we wanted to go there they weren’t open.

Company Cafe- Another gluten free cafe in Dallas, again their menu looked good but we didn’t plan our meals out well enough to get there. If I’m ever in Dallas again I’ll be sure to make it here!

Tribal All Day Cafe- A cafe with an assortment of gluten free and vegan food. I wanted to get breakfast from here before we left but it was too out of the way.

Lalaland Kind Cafe- An organic cafe with really cool looking lattes and toasts. It looks like the perfect place to get a matcha latte.

Hopefully you have just as much fun in Dallas as I did! Let me know which of these places was your favorite!
